Scaffolding is up and masonry restoration is underway at the George Peach House in Markham. The work is being done with great care by Peter Devine Masonry, under the direction of DJ McRae general contractors. We are hopeful that all of the visible work can be done using brick salvaged from elsewhere in the building to avoid the use of new material.
The photographs show an overview of the new chimney on the north side of the building, reconstructed to match the existing chimney at the south, and a closeup of the same chimney. Note Peter's signature on the mortar cap!
The last photograph shows a small sample of cutting out old mortar, along with the chisel used for the work. Peter and his team are doing the cutting out completely by hand.
